Content Partners acquires factual series Forensic Files from Medstar TV

Content Partners has acquired the entire Forensic Files catalogue

LA-based investment company Content Partners has acquired the entire catalogue of the true-crime documentary television series Forensic Files after a deal with creator Paul Dowling’s prodco Medstar Television.

The acquisition adds 400 Forensic Files episodes, spanning 14 seasons, as well as international distribution rights to Forensic Files II, to Content Partners’ library of film and TV titles. That library includes box office titles 13 Going on 30, Black Hawk Down and Black Swan.

The company also owns Revolution Studios and co-owns the CSI television franchise. All told, it has ownership rights or interests in over 500 films and around 3,000 hours of television content.

An agreement between Content Partners and US distributor and streamer FilmRise gives the company all international linear television rights to Forensic Files, in addition to FilmRise’s continued distribution of worldwide digital rights.

The international rights to the show were previously handled by US distributor and industry veteran Gary Lico before his retirement last year.

Documenting the application of forensic science in solving crimes and accidents, Forensic Files (fka Medical Detectives) first aired from 1996 to 2011 on TLC and currently unspools on the CNN-owned basic cable network, HLN.

“Forensic Files is the pioneer of true crime television, captivating audiences for nearly three decades,” said Content Partners’ president John Mass, adding the show was a “trailblazer of the true crime genre.”

“It’s so rare that a creator/producer owns a series outright,” said Dowling, president of Medstar Television. “With the expertise and industry acumen of the Content Partners team, and the cutting-edge distribution strategy of FilmRise, we know Forensic Files will continue in good hands.”
